Il castone e la gemma. Sulla tecnica poetica di Sidonio Apollinare

In Sidonius Apollinare's style, late-antique Mannerism knows a decadence as exasperated as it is suggestive: themes, topoi and lexical rêveries of a prestigious literary tradition are in fact set in a fragmented but not disarticulated poetic organism, extended to the spasmodic care of the smallest details yet supported by an extraordinarily lucid and calibrated overall design. The present volume proposes to investigate this sophisticated textual Sidonian architecture, highlighting its profitable interaction both with the varied capillary regime that oversees the individual sections of the compositions and their reciprocal relationship, and with the multiple dynamics of inventio and lexical device in which it substantiates a linguistic preciousness fed by a careful study of the diction and the versification technique of the auctores.

Author

Marco Onorato is PhD in Latin language and literature at the Department of Ancient and modern civilization at University of Messina. He is the author of a analysed edition of Caludiano’s “De raptu Proserpinae” (2008) and of two monographies on Catullo’s patterning phenomenon (2013) and Sidonio Apollinare’s poetic technique (2016). Moreover, he focused on Gallo Romano’s reuse of models in many papers. He also studied the myth of Narciso in Ovidio’s “Metamorfosi” and the cinematographic representation of Rutilio Namaziano’s “De reditu”.
