Letteratura latina

The main purpose of this history of literature is to show how by a slow process of assimilation of Greek culture the Roman writers have come to the formation of a new, complete cultural synthesis (which finds its climax in the age of Augustus) and then , in the subsequent imperial age, through the exploration of new spiritual, moral and artistic realities, the Latin literature, accepted the vital lymphs of Christianity, has elaborated forms and contents destined to remain fundamental in the formation of Western civilization and of human consciousness modern.

Author

Carmelo Salemme is a ordinary professor of Latin literature at the University of Calabria. He has published monographs on Saffo, Lucretius, Manilus, Lucanus, Valerio Flacco, Martial, Ammianus Marcellinus, Iacopo Sannazaro, as well as exegetical contributions to the Latin bucolic poetry of the Middle Ages. At the center of his critical attention are the modalities of the literary representation of reality, the peculiar characteristics of "poetic making" in the interpretation of reality and of the world.
